Nikhil’s practice focuses on energy and utility law, including litigation and counseling on behalf of natural gas, electric, and water utility clients in state regulatory and related proceedings. Nikhil joined the Chicago office of Whitt Sturtevant LLP in 2017. Prior to this, Nikhil was a Senior Policy Associate with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, where he analyzed energy efficiency policies and worked to advance ratepayer-funded demand-side management programs across the Midwest. Before his tenure with the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, Nikhil worked in the energy and environmental regulatory practice at the law firm Paul Hastings LLP in San Francisco, where he represented Fortune 500 and large publicly traded clients in litigation matters, handled enforcement matters arising under state and federal environmental law, and advised clients with respect to compliance issues and environmental law. Nikhil has experience working on federal and state emission standards, environmental review and permitting, and utility demand-side management requirements.
Nikhil earned his law degree from the University of California at Berkeley School of Law (J.D. 2013). Nikhil also received a master’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley Energy and Resources Group (M.S. 2013). Nikhil focused his studies at U.C. Berkeley on the development of water delivery and electric infrastructure in rural settings. Nikhil graduated cum laude from the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology (B.S. 2008).
Nikhil is admitted to the California and Illinois Bar. He serves as a member on the Board of the Energy Bar Association’s Midwest Chapter, as well as the Energy and Resources Group Alumni Network. Nikhil is also a member of the Chicago Bar Association and the Women’s Energy Network.
